Ok, Now I’m angry!

July 15, 2010

Further to my previous post. I”ve just learnt that the Roman Catholic Church has declared the attempted ordination of Women a “Grave Crime”. This is the SAME TERM that they use for CHILD ABUSE!!!!!! Now, comments are encouraged either way but I am beyond appaled. Further than that I’m more angry than a)I’d thought I’d be, or b)I think I’ve ever been over a news story.

Before I go any further into a serious rant, I must stress that I do not wish to offend individual Catholics (indeed a good number of my friends are Catholic) who cannot help what the Vatican thinks, are not compicit in what the Vatican thinks, may not agree with what the Vatican thinks, or may be just as angry as I am.

Firstly in what sane, credible, rational, reasonable or well balanced universe is  allowing women to become intercessors between us and the divine, which last time I checked wasn’t conditional on one possessing a penis, is equivalent to the genuinely vile and heinous act (for which the term “grave crime” is an understatement) of violating the innocence of a child and destroying their life beyond repair? At best, and while being extremely forgiving , it is a serious PR blunder.

I’m not in a terribly for giving mood however and in short HOW DARE THEY make statements like that IN THE NAME OF MY GOD! It is typical of the arrogance of a church that has always claimed to be the superior church of Christendom, on the flimsiest of pretexts; that in which Jesus said to Peter (who just happens to be the first Bishop of Rome) “on this rock (petros) I will build my church.  I am appalled that the Vatican, purely off the back of the Church of England’s long overdue move in the opposite direction to allow the consecration of women bishops, makes this shocking and ANTI-CHRISTIAN pronouncement.

I’m not sure what I’m more angry over: the equivocation with child molestation; or the continued, unnecessary, blatant, unrepentant misogyny and degradation of one half of their adherents.  It almost makes me ASHAMED to CALL MYSELF A CHRISTIAN.  Thank Christ I’m not a fenian, if I was I’d convert. Rather than being ashamed over what my faith is apparently being reduced to I’d acutally go so far as to say the Vatican’s acts are Unchristian in the extreme. Indeed, I’d go so far as to say “JESUS WEEPS”.

All I, a mere mortal who in a number of counts according to “His Holiness” et al is in a grave state of sin, can hope for is a mass wave of Catholics rejecting Rome and it’s insipid, anti-Christian tendrils. I’m not saying convert one way or the other, just know when  the Vatican no longer speaks for you.  Or, possibly that the Church in Rome might consider changing its ways…. Yeah, someone find my mitre because I’ll be pope before that happens.

“This is the SAME TERM that they use for CHILD ABUSE!!!!!! Now, comments are encouraged either way but I am beyond appaled.” What a statement! So true.

I can’t figure out what angers me more, the actions of the Catholic church or the fact that I am ever surprised by these actions. The Catholic church is nothing, if not consistent. They (the Vatican) are the most arrogant, elitist, self serving organized religion in history.

Catholic women worldwide should demand equal treatment by their church. I grew up in a Catholic family in Boston, a hub of Catholicism. In every family I knew, it was the mother who was responsible for promoting the church to the children. It was the mother who took them to church, to CCD, to CYO. Without these women, the Catholic church is nowhere.
